Man Fatally Shot on LA Metro Bus in South Los Angeles on Christmas Eve

LOS ANGELES, CA — A man was fatally shot aboard a Los Angeles Metro bus in the Exposition Park area on Wednesday afternoon, authorities said, in a violent incident that erupted amid an argument and sent shock through the community on Christmas Eve.

The Los Angeles Police Department responded at about 1:58 p.m. to reports of a shooting near Normandie Avenue and West 39th Street, where a northbound Line 206 bus had been stopped. Police and Metro officials said the gunfire followed an altercation among a group of young men that began near a bus stop and continued once passengers boarded the vehicle.

According to L.A. Metro, one member of the group opened fire on another, striking the victim, who later died from his injuries. The victim has not been publicly identified, and the circumstances leading up to the dispute were still under investigation.

The suspects fled the scene before police arrived, and the LAPD is actively searching for the individual or individuals responsible. Authorities have not released descriptions of the suspects but have urged anyone with information to contact LAPD or Crime Stoppers.

While shootings on public transit remain relatively rare, the incident adds to a series of violent encounters on Metro services in recent months, prompting renewed concerns about safety aboard buses and trains across the city.
